Best tyre for bullet standard 350 | mudguard touch problem solved

Royal Enfield has two bikes in their line up which uses 19 inches tyres. These are bullet standard and bullet es. Tyre sizes are the same for bs4 and bs6 bikes. Most of the riders who ride any of these bikes are very disappointed with the rear tyre of the bike because the royal Enfield gives a very thin stock tyre. With these stock tyres, you can’t even ride the bike with confidence. If you want to corner the bike or have to deal with some slush or bad patch of the slippery road you cant bear with that stock tyre.

Most of my rider friends have this question which tyre is best for bullet standard and the other same tyre size bikes. Initially, I can give you three options of tyres which good for these bikes but these tyres have their own drawbacks and at the end of this post I will let you know the best solution for this problem. First, we will see the best possible options for the tyre in bullet standard and other bikes.

Royal Enfield stock tyre

Nowadays Royal Enfield comes with CEAT tyres here we are talking about rear tyre of bullet series. the size of the tyre is 90/90 – R19. This tyre is not according to the proportion of the bike. the bike looks bulky against the tyre. That is why most of the riders want to change this tyre.

Should we change the stock tyre

There are two aspects of this question.

First is if you are a city rider or a commuter who just uses his bike for commuting or for daily chores then there is no need for you to change the stock CEAT tyre.

The second one is if you go weekend riding or long rides then you have to change your bike tyre because in long rides we can’t predict the road conditions and weather conditions so being a proactive rider we have to change the tyre.

Now before we look for the good and the bad things of the above-mentioned tyres we must understand the basics of the tires.

Tire basics

Here in this section we just discuss the tire basics which will help us to make the right decision regarding tyres.

Tyre material

we can divide the tyres in two to three categories.

  1. soft compound tyre
  2. hard compound tyre
  3. mixture of above both

Soft compound tires

Soft compound tires are tires that are made of soft material. It gives you the best grip on the road as well as in the slush and bad patches but these tires are very easily punctured. the life of these types of tires is shorter than the other two types of tires.

Hard compound tyres

Hard compound tyres are made of hard material. These types of tyres are not that good for roads, these can be good for rough terrains. the life of these tyres is very long. The chances of being punctured are also very low.

Mixture of hard and soft compound tires

These tyres are best for Indian roads most of the Indian companies made this kind of tyres. It gives you good control on the road and on the off-road terrains. These types of tyres life are also good.

Tire parameters

you must have seen this 100/90 – R19 written on tires. What is the meaning of this ? Let’s find out.

  1. 100 is the width of the tire
  2. 90 is the aspect ratio you can take it as the height of the tire
  3. R-19 is the rim size

Discuss about above suggested tires

Here we will discuss the good things and the bad things about the above-mentioned tires.

Ralco speed blaster

This Ralco speed blaster tire is the most demanded tire for royal Enfield bikes because this looks bulky and it has heavy beads. This tire also gives the bike a macho look. This is a hard compound tire that must be away from punctures and have a long life but it will not give you a good grip on the road.

MRF mogrip meteor

This MRF tire is a good it the mixture of both soft and hard compound but it is not bulky in looking as Ralco.

Michelin sirac street

This Michelin is provided us soft compound tire. This tire gives you the best in class grip but it is prone to punctures. This tire will be worn out soon.

royal enfield bullet-es

Major problem you face with these tires

As you know about each and every tire but these tyres have some more issues considering you have royal enfield standard series bikes.

  1. If you ride with a pillion these tires touch with the mudguard
  2. 4 to 5 kmpl mileage drop
  3. The height of the bike will be increased a bit

Solution of these Royal Enfield tire problems

There are so many solutions regarding these tyre problems. Which we will discuss below.

Height Enhancer

I have seen so many people after installing these tires on their bikes they install a height enhancer. It is a kind of bracket that fix on the rear shockers to increase the height of the bike. It works well by installing this the tire will not touch the mudguard again but this kind of adjustment is not good for safety purposes. If this bracket cracked then you can’t imagine what will happen to the bike and to the rider.

So there is a big no from my side for this height enhancer.

Rim Change

This is a good option if you change your standard 19-inch rim to a royal Enfield classic 18-inch rim then you can install a comparatively fat tire. Here you can also opt for the Royal Enfield genuine classic alloy wheels and make your bike tubeless.

Shocker change

This is the option to which you can opt by changing the shockers of the bike which has a comparatively large height than the stock company fitted shockers. You can also try royal Enfield classic 350 shockers.
